Frequently Asked Questions

Check out my answers to some popular questions!

Can I try one lesson before committing?

Absolutely! A free meet-and-greet is always set up with new students. This is a chance to get to know each other, talk about learning goals, experience the learning environment, and see if we’re a good team.

Even if you’ve already signed up for lessons with me, if at any time you decide it isn’t for you, you’re never locked in. I believe that learning should be a joy, never a burden.

What ages do you teach?

I enjoy teaching all ages! However, the youngest age that I accept at my studio is 4 years old.

Parents of students younger than 4 should explore Music for Young Children, Smart Start program at the Royal Conservatory, or the Suzuki Method instead.

I want to learn the piano on my own through YouTube, but I’ve run into a few snags. Will you teach me for one lesson just to sort out the issues I’ve encountered?

Absolutely! I do not require students to commit to regular lessons if they do not wish to do so. If you just want one lesson to clear some issues up, I’d be happy to play this small role in your musical journey!

Can I start taking lessons at any time?

Yes! Lessons are offered from September through June. Students can start at any time.

Do you teach music theory?

Yes, theory is included in regular lessons. If you wish, RCM theory exams start at the grade 5 level. I also offer theory as a standalone subject.

Should I/my child take an exam?

Exams can provide a wonderful goal to work towards. Many students are motivated by setting this as a goal.

However, other students do not have any desire to take an exam and can be motivated by entirely different goals (i.e. learning to play a favourite song for friends).

A thorough musical education can be achieved with or without exams, it really depends on each student.

What is the cancellation policy?

Fees are not reduced/refunded/credited for missed or cancelled lessons.  Students or Parents should notify the teacher as soon as possible. If a cancellation is required, in order to be eligible for a makeup lesson, students/parents must notify teacher with a minimum 24 hour advance notice. When there is an opening in the teacher’s schedule, a makeup lesson will be scheduled. For less than 24 hour notice, a makeup lesson cannot be guaranteed, and availability is solely at teacher’s discretion. Missed/cancelled lessons for which no desirable makeup lesson can be found are automatically forfeited. Committing to a regular schedule of lessons helps the student progress well and ensures that I can provide a consistent, high-quality experience.
